Healing
Portraits

Photography can be a very powerful tool; a documentation and validation of trauma, of grief and of life. Identifying as a woman in this society, our identity is wrapped up in our bodies, in our hair, in our breasts. We each have our own personal relationship with our bodies, no story is the same, no body is the same. Your experience belongs to you. Whatever you are healing from and wherever you are in your healing process, we can document the celebration of living your distinct life in your distinct body through the photographic lens.

As a breast cancer patient going through chemotherapy, having complete alopecia made me feel vulnerable in a way I had never experienced. Amber was able to take that emotional susceptibility and turn it into something beautiful - an appreciation for difficult moments that I will always be able to summon in the future. Amber is kind and considerate. During the whole process, she reminds you of your strength and she has the rare capability to make you actually believe her. I am so happy with the finished photos and even more content to have shared this with such a graceful talent.

Our bodies go through many stages in the course of our life. There are many life experiences that change us and leaves marks, on the outside but also on the inside. Maybe you have had top surgery or a breast reduction. Maybe you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and want to celebrate your body before it changes, or after. Maybe pregnancy and birth have changed your belly. Inside you may question your identity, your beauty and desirability with your new silhouette in a society that values the external over our inner beauty and wisdom. Photographing this journey can help you find peace and love for yourself, to find the beauty inside you and let it radiate outward to be seen and validated. To fall in love with the interior and exterior form you currently inhabit.

What does it look like…

Our photo session is a journey in itself. This is not your typical photo shoot. We spend time talking on the phone before we even meet; about and your relationship with your body. We discuss what you hope to receive from the session. We may explore your fears and your desires and establish what to expect on the day of the session. We will also look at your images together for the first time, in person or on zoom, this aspect of the process is also part of the healing. I hold space for you as you witness yourself, there to catch you and help you feel emotions that may come up in you
